Frequently asked questions
Questions and answers
Why don't you list prices up front?
Every home's water is different, and the right system depends on what's in it. We quote once your water test or consultation points to the right system, so you see a price for what your home actually needs.
Where does the water report come from?
From public U.S. government records: the EPA's Safe Drinking Water Information System (violations and lead and copper testing), the EPA's UCMR 5 PFAS testing (2023 to 2025), the EPA's estimated water-system service areas, and Census ZIP code areas. It describes your utility's water, not a test of your own tap, and some records may be out of date or missing.
What's the difference between a filter and a softener?
A filter reduces things like chlorine, sediment, and certain contaminants. A softener removes hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) that cause scale. A softener doesn't purify water, and most filters don't soften it, so many homes use both.
Do I need reverse osmosis if I have a softener?
A whole-house softener like the Hydronex covers every tap. Reverse osmosis is usually installed at the kitchen sink and reduces a wider range of dissolved substances in the water you drink and cook with. They work well together.
I have a private well. Where do I start?
Public tap-water databases cover city and utility systems, not private wells, and well owners are responsible for testing their own water. A free in-home water test is a good first step.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Wilmington, DE, and serve Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. See our service areas, or enter your ZIP in the help form and we'll confirm.
What does the in-home test check?
Treatment-design basics like hardness, chlorine or chloramine, iron, and pH, so we can size the right system. For health-related contaminants such as bacteria, nitrate, arsenic, or PFAS, we'll point you to a state-certified lab.
Does the report show hardness?
Not yet. Hardness isn't in the EPA datasets the report uses. Check your utility's annual water quality report (CCR) or book an in-home test.
Do you install?
Yes. WÜDR sells and installs water softeners, iron and sulfur filters, and reverse osmosis systems. Installation details for your home are included with your recommendation.
Do you treat PFAS?
Yes, at the kitchen sink, with reverse osmosis chosen from your PFAS results. We don't currently install whole-house PFAS treatment. See PFAS filtration.
Are your products certified?
Look for NSF/ANSI certification for the specific contaminant you want reduced. Your recommendation lists the certifications the recommended product holds.
